A Family of Services for Over 60 Years

Belanger travailleur

Sixty years ago, Maurice Bélanger began growing flowers and vegetables in Amqui. His son Serge took over the business 28 years ago, and today, his children Camille and Alex proudly represent the third generation involved in the family company.

While Bélanger Centre Jardin still grows vegetables and flowers, many services have been added over the years. The garden center now offers trees, shrubs, indoor and outdoor plants, as well as a gift and décor boutique. To help mark life’s special moments with beauty, the company also provides full-service floral arrangements. In winter, the team shifts to snow removal operations, and the store transforms into a festive Christmas shop. To be self-sufficient in its landscaping projects, Bélanger Paysagiste operates its own sod farm, supplying turf for both residential and commercial jobs. Remarkably, founder Maurice—now nearly 90 years old—still works there.

Growth and Reach

In 2005, the family acquired an adjacent lot to expand their retail greenhouses and add a gift shop. Always looking to better serve their customers, the company purchased a garden center in Mont-Joli in 2021. That same year, both the flower boutique and garden center underwent expansions. Today, Bélanger Paysagiste employs around 100 people. Camille Bélanger, representing the third generation, oversees part of the human resources operations. She was awarded the Quercus Young Entrepreneur Award in 2021. The company also received the Quercus Customer Service Award that same year.

The family business has been a certified Maître Paysagiste for 19 years. For Camille, the certification means: “Being part of a network of professionals who share the same challenges and successes. It’s a mutual support system that helps everyone rise together.”

Grand-Scale Landscaping Projects

Bélanger Paysagiste stands out for its large-scale institutional and commercial landscaping projects, often carried out for general contractors. These include parking lot borders, concrete retaining walls, planting, hydroseeding, sod installation, and more. From Gaspé to Rivière-du-Loup, the team has completed numerous roadside landscaping projects. In the case of Highway 85, the company has planted—and will continue to plant—over 50,000 plants.

The team is known for its resourcefulness, delivering massive projects efficiently and safely. At Bélanger, no effort is spared: for example, an actual helicopter was used to deliver 3,000 plants down a steep roadside slope to make work easier for their crew. Many of their institutional projects also contribute to environmental restoration—revitalizing local flora and fauna by replanting grasses and native vegetation for wildlife. This is a source of pride for the entire team.

A Shared Family Spirit

At Bélanger Paysagiste, quality workmanship is the company’s signature—leading to a steady stream of referrals from satisfied clients. Everyone contributes, because the company believes that “together, we go further.” Beyond the grandfather, father, and two children, that sense of family extends to the entire team. Many employees have been with the company for decades—for instance, the garden center manager has been welcoming customers for over 32 years.

With more than 60 years of experience, the team is adaptable to any kind of landscaping project: small, medium, large, classic, or modern. Bélanger Paysagiste has the people, tools, and knowledge to respond quickly and make the most of Quebec’s short landscaping season. The company remains a leader in its field throughout Gaspésie, the Bas-Saint-Laurent, and even the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

And the third generation of Bélanger is proudly carrying the torch into the future.
