Description
Enjoying a water feature and a relaxation area in the privacy created by the proposed and existing vegetation (including a mature tree). Since the wall exceeded 4 feet in height, no guardrail was required on a portion of the pool coping, which allowed for an unobstructed view of the mature trees and newly planted hemlocks at the back of the yard. The heated driveway and main walkway were highlighted by combining the elegance of slate and interlocking pavers.
Goals and Challenges
The residence is located on a heritage and archaeological site on the slopes of Mount Royal. The rugged topography pushed the limits of both design and execution. With only one access point to the backyard for machinery, we had to build a sand mound supported by a wooden retaining wall reinforced with geogrids. A self-supporting pool was installed on a concrete slab. To stabilize the slope, we used carefully selected vegetation with an invasive root system.
Plans
Here is the layout that guided the implementation of the project.
